Artist's Comments

I have decided to dedicate this image to a friend, because while the valleys are sometimes dark and deep, it is when we are in them, that we find our vision.

The book is a Puritan Book of prayers, many of them 100's of years old. The base of the image is on an old trunk that my grandfather brought with him when he came to this country almost 100 years ago.

Together, these artifacts speak to the struggles, the trials, the hopes and the dreams that people have had over the years in many places and in many different times.

As it is said..."for lack of a vision, the people die." All of us must find a vision that helps us to live our lives and to move forward from day to day.

I kind of just happened. I was not thinking about a picture at all, I was just putting down the chain and that is what happened. Then I had to move it all to the studio of course (tryingnot to upset anything) and play with the lighting, but other than that...I never had intention or even the idea of this.

very interesting concept! i also love the angle you've chosen... it sort of feels as if the book can be consulted to help you through your problems, but only if you apply the concepts to a modern lifestyle (thus the odd angle). that made sense in my mind... hopefully it does to you :)

I guess this image, like most of them I have been making lately, are very open to interpreataion. What I like and appreciate, is that people are wiling to do that.

Thank you for your thoughts. In makes the shot better and more interesting.
