Artist's Comments

Founded in 1892 this monastery, called Our Lady of the Prairies, was home to more than 50 Trappist monks for over 85 years. In but in 1978, as the city expanded, these reclusive monks relocated to Holland, Manitoba where they currently reside. Two years later, this church was struck with tragedy when it burned.

The guest home of the monastery is now used by the St. Norbert Arts Council. The council creates an atmosphere where creative spirits can join in retreat dedicated to artistic expression, site stewardship and community life.
