There is nothing significant about this image, except for the fact that it lies on the border between the US and Canada. At many points along that extensive line, nothing separates the two countries, and we have lived in peace for almost the entirety of our existence together.

This border is perhaps the longest unprotected border in our world today. It speaks to the peace and trust that two countries can develop. Over the years this border has been permeated many times, through marriage, work and social events. In some ways, the border is only a line in our heads because in the hearts of the people who live near to it, there is little difference between people. Canadians live in the US and commute to Canada for their work, Canadians marry US citizens, and have shared in the loss of lives in Iraq. Within our daily lives, the only thing that makes us different from our neighbour is this invisible line.
