When looking at this piece, I knew that it was about love, just by looking at the subjects, but it felt like something was amiss. I couldn't put my finger on it, so I looked at it a little longer and a little deeper. I still couldn't get it, so I resorted to analyzing the technique, to see if that would help. Once I began to examine the diagonals and whatever else those invisible lines the eye follows are called (it's late, the term escapes me), it hit me - it's not about love, it's about jealousy.
There seems to be a battle between the roses and baby's breath (?) flowers for the attention of the violin - the roses are winning. The roses appear to be clinging to the violin almost obsessively, as if it is theirs and only theirs. The beby's breath seem to be shying away from the roses and their very prickly thorns, while still trying to be as close to the violin as possible. Yes, the roses have won, but lo! they have paid dearly for their victory. One of their comrades has fallen, sacrificed himself for the noble cause of love...
The violin, meanwhile, is looking a mite uncomfortable... he is not being all cuddly-like with the roses as in the previous pictures, but is turning away from them, spurning their embrace. It's as if he disapproves of their actions against the poor, fragile baby's breath. Perhaps he held a special place for them in his heart too? Hmm...
The general mental image I get, though, is one of a pack of rabid fan girls clawing at one another for the attentions of the lead singer of a faddish boy band...
I feel a little silly posting it. It was kind of part of the series on Chords, but in my mind it did not fit. Yet, i thought it was a pretty good picture so i finally decided to post it. I did not do any work on the title. That is simply the image number given my the camera. (The "a" means I have modified it...in this case, I changed it to a 4x5 fomat by cropping).
Daily Literature Deviations is a group that is dedicated to bringing literature to the forefront of the deviantArt community. We attempt to accomplish this by daily featuring Literature artists from around the community that deserve the recognition, but are not getting it.
Each day we will feature 5 deviations from the Literature categories in a News Article. In order to support the artists that we feature, we ask that you the news article as well as check out the individual pieces. We understand that each day you may not be able to check out each and every one of the pieces, everyone has their own things going on. We just ask that you make an attempt to help support the growing Literature community.
